Monofibre vs Natural Hair Extensions What You Need to Know

How do Monofibre and human hair extensions differ in versatility?

Synthetic hair presents a major benefit by behaving precisely as intended, unlike natural hair, which often has a mind of its own. It can deliver the desired thickness and retains curls longer than human hair. Additionally, synthetic hair is lighter, making it ideal for those with fragile hair, as it attaches to itself instead of directly to your hair. The only downside is that it requires blow-drying to achieve a straight look and cannot be flat ironed. Many celebrities, such as Christina Aguilera and Victoria Beckham, have worn Monofibre extensions.

What is the difference in quality?

Synthetic hair of high quality, like Monofibre, often exceeds real hair in terms of shine, looks healthier, and is typically easier to manage. DOME hair is patented and was the first of its kind, establishing it as a respected leader in the industry. Conversely, human hair can be easier to care for, as it doesn't need special treatment beyond what you would do for your own hair because it looks, feels, and moves naturally. The application process requires a heavier seal unless using pre-tipped extensions, which are cut into thin strands. Monofibre is most effective when it matches your hair length for softness, but it can be selected based on your preferred style and budget.

What are some ways to style my hair extensions?

Heated appliances like tongs and straightening irons can be used on human hair as usual. However, with synthetic hair, you need to exercise a bit more caution. You can still use certain styling tools, and you'll often find that the styles created with these tools tend to last longer. If you need to flat iron your own hair, you can move the synthetic strands aside. Monofiber can be blow-dried to a perfectly straight finish, and hot rollers can be used to curl them.

Are hair extensions safe?

Synthetic extensions can be attached and removed without any glues or chemicals; they are simply loosened at the braid attachment and unbraided. In contrast, human hair extensions require professional removal using a special solution and flat pliers to break the polymer bond. Both types of extensions are placed away from the scalp to prevent tension or discomfort, and they typically grow out about an inch during the 4-5 months they are worn. Breakage is minimal, but natural hair loss that occurs within the strand application is combed out during removal. It's minimal! However, returning to your original hair volume can be a bit of a shock.

Do hair extensions appear natural?

Both types of extensions are entirely safe and should be applied or removed by a qualified technician. The key to great extensions is their seamless blend, but it can also be thrilling to make them as striking as possible! You can choose to go bold or just add a few to give your hair a healthier feel. Consider adding color without using chemicals.

What is the cost of hair extensions?

Human hair is always pricier than synthetic hair, but this doesn't necessarily indicate better quality; it's simply real hair. Some people prefer it due to an aversion to synthetic options, while others have the opposite preference. Human hair is sourced from countries like India, Indonesia, Italy, and various parts of Europe and undergoes chemical treatment before use. It's important to ask your stylist about the processes used by different companies. The key is to select a salon and extensionist with proven experience, ensuring you feel confident and satisfied with their qualifications. Don't prioritize a cheaper option over quality. Explore your options to find the price that suits you.

How long does it take to get hair extensions during an appointment?

Synthetic hair extensions typically require up to four hours to apply with the help of two stylists, while human hair extensions can take between 5 hours for an experienced stylist and up to 9 hours for a newly trained one. Regardless of the type of extensions, you'll need to visit your salon every six weeks for maintenance and a tidy-up. Regular cuts and color appointments ensure you maintain your best look. Synthetic/DOME extensions can be rotated during applications, allowing for removal and replacement of lost strands, or they can be completely removed and reapplied. HairDreams extensions are generally applied and then removed 4-5 months later, with the option to add a few strands as you become accustomed to styling your new hair. The initial major application is paid in full, while most follow-up visits are charged based on an hourly rate.
